Krull is a 1983 fantasy film directed by Peter Yates the film is now 28 years old.  The world of Krull is invaded by an evil alien only known as The Beast and his army of Slayers who travel the galaxy in the mountain like spaceship known as the Black Fortress.  Two rival kingdoms have formed an alliance against The Beast and The Slayers, Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshal) the son of King Turlord and Princess Lyssa (Lysette Anthony) daughter of King Eirig decide to marry to unite the two kingdoms in hope that together their combined forces will be strong enough to defeat the Beast and his armies.  It was foretold that Lyssa who has an ancient name would bear a child destined to rule the galaxy.  The Beast intent on ensuring that this came true has his Slayers attack on the wedding day.  During the wedding ceremony the Slayers attack the castle and kill everyone in it only to capture Princess Lyssa and take her back to the Black Fortress.  Prince Colwyn is the only survivor of the attack and is nursed back to health by Ynyr the Old One (Freddie Jones).  Told by Ynyr that Princess Lyssa is alive and well but held captive in the Black Fortress, Prince Colwyn sets out to find the Glaive an ancient and magical star shaped weapon that he must retrieve from a lava cave high in the mountain peaks.  Now he has the Glaive he must learn the location of the Black Fortress, which teleports to a new location on the planet at sunrise every day. On his journey he is joined by a cowardly shape shifting magician Ergo the Magnificent (David Battley) the cyclops Rell (Bernard Bresslaw) and Torquil (Alun Armstrong) is the leader of a band of escaped convicts Colwyn encounters along the way which includes Kegan (Liam Neeson), Rhun (Robbie Coltrane) and Oswyn (Todd Carty).  Colwyn enlists the convicts in return for there freedom and removal of their shackles.  Colwyn and the others are taken to see the Emerald Seer by Ynyr an old friend of the Emerald Seer,  he is a blind prophet the Emerald Seer (John Welsh) who might be able to tell him of the next location of the Black Fortress but during his attempt to see the Black Fortress The Beast opposes his vision destroying his Emerald crystal. The Emerald Seer tells Colwyn that he must travel with him and his young apprentice Titch (Graham McGrath) to the Emerald Temple in the middle of the swamps for him to see the next location of the Black Fortress, there The Beast cannot oppose his vision.  While traveling through the swamp they are attacked by Slayers, during the attack he Emerald seer is killed before he can reveal the next location of The Black Fortress.  Ynyr is left with only one option he must see the Widow of the Web (Francesca Annis) for aid at the cost of his own life.  The Widow of the Web is an enchantress who long ago loved Ynyr and whose terrible crime exiled her to live within the lair of a giant spider.  A dying Ynyr tells Colwyn the next location of the Black Fortress he has until sunrise to find the Black Fortress before it moves location again.   Colwyn and his followers reach the Black Fortress in time by using Fire Mares (the only transport fast enough to reach the teleporting fortress in the same day).  Upon arrival they are held back by Slayers who manage to kill Rhun, then Rell arrives on a Fire Mare and climbs up the outside of the Black Fortress and withstands the Slayer onslaught to hold open the huge rock doors long enough for Colwyn and the others to enter but dies as the entrance closes and crushes him.  Kegan dies shortly after at the hands of a Slayer and Colwyn is separated from the others, Ergo transforms into a tiger to fight the Slayers and protect Titch.  Torquil and Oswyn are trapped in a cave that threatens to kill them by impaling them on spikes coming through the walls.  Colwyn enters the heart of the Black Fortress and begins to battle The Beast injuring him non fatally with the Glaive and finds Lyssa, he is unable to retrieve the Glaive from the Beast’s body.   Lyssa then realizes that the flame she passed Colwyn at the marriage ceremony can finish the beast not the Glaive.  He uses the flame to kill The Beast and they make their way out of the Fortress  finding Torquil,Oswyn,Ergo and Titch along the way.  Colwyn uses the flame to blast his way out of the Fortress, which collapses and disappears up and out of Krull.  Colwyn names Torquil as his Lord Marshall, Torquil accepts. As the heroes depart across a field the narrator confirms that they will rule the world and their child shall rule the galaxy.

  1. Hey, Awesome blog you have here. I wanted to let you all know that I think Twitter is going to be one of the stronger networks because of the fact that it is supported by so many industries. I also think when Twitter introduces some of it’s new functions, returning traffic will increase to show the real growth of the network.

Anyway, I build a website that gives away great resources for Twitter that are 100% free, so come and visit and don’t be a stranger.

    Keep up the good work!
