Iron Man 2 is the second film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name from Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures.  It is the sequel to 2008′s Iron Man, and the second film in a planned trilogy.   Directed by Jon Favreau the film stars Robert Downey Jr reprising his role as Tony Stark.   The film plot is this Somewhere in Moscow an old man who is dying watches on TV the press conference of Tony Stark revealing himself to be Iron Man.  He calls his son Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) and tells him with his last breath that he passes his knowledge to him.  The old man had blueprints of the Arc Reactor, using these blueprints Ivan builds his own Arc Reactor along with a pair of arm mounted electrified whips powered by it.  Six months later Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) has used his Iron Man armor as a nuclear deterrent and a means of maintaining world peace.  He opens the Stark Expo in Flushing New York to continue his father’s legacy.  Tony is being pressured by the United States government and Senator Stern (Gary Shandling) in particular to hand over his armor technology to the government for military application.  Stark refuses publicly shaming rival Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) in demonstrating how rival states and groups are at least five years away from successfully recreating the technology.  Stark is not well he discovers that his palladium  in the Arc Reactor that keeps his heart beating has begun to leak into his body and is poisoning him, raising his blood toxicity levels and slowly killing him.   Slowly going off the rails Stark appoints his former personal assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) CEO of Stark Industries, replacing her with Natalie Rushman (Scarlett Johansson).  While racing his own team’s Formula 1 car at Monaco, Tony is attacked by Ivan but manages  to defeat him with the aid of his Mark V armor (a transforming briefcase).  Tony discovers that Ivan is the son of disgraced Russian physicist Anton Vanko, who collaborated on the first Arc Reactor with Tony s  father Howard (John Slattery) following his defection from the Soviet Union.  Anton had wanted to use the Arc Reactor to earn money, but Tony´s father had him deported back to Russia.  Where he subsequently died in poverty and passed on the technology to his son, who swore revenge against the Stark family.  Ivan is broken out of jail by Justin Hammer, who puts him to work fashioning a line of “Hammer battle suits” that he will use to upstage Tony at his own Expo and fulfill his military contracts.  Ivan decides to transform these battle suits into “Hammer drones” replacing the helmet assemblies with drone heads.  With the government still demanding that he turn over his Iron Man technology, Tony throws what he believes will be his last birthday party and proceeds to get drunk whilst wearing the Iron Man Mark IV armor.  As  result he is a danger to himself and others.  His friend Lt Colonel James Rhodey Rhodes (Don Cheadle) is forced to wear the Mark II armor and subdue him, after which he confiscates the armor for the military.   A Disgraced Stark is approached by Nick Fury (SamuelL Jackson) of  S.H.I.E.L.D, who reveals to Stark that Natalie is an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D agent named Natasha Romanoff assigned to keep an eye on him.  Fury also tells Stark that his father was a founding member of S.H.I.E.L.D and provides Tony with a chest of his father’s old artifacts that can hopefully be used to find a cure for his palladium poisoning, thus completing his father’s unfinished work on Arc technology.  While watching some of the film reels from his fathers chest, Stark discovers a message from his father that leads him to the original diorama of the 1974 Stark Expo.  In reality a disguised diagram for the atomic structure of a new element.  Tony hand builds a particle accelerator at his home with the aid of his computer J.A.R.V.I.S.   The newly synthesized element is then loaded into a modified Arc Reactor chest piece and inserted into his chest, which cures the palladium poisoning.   Ivan then then calls Tony to taunt him, revealing that he is still hell bent on revenge and plans to assault the Stark Expo.  At the Expo Hammer unveils his new military drones, captained by Rhodes in a heavily weaponized version of the confiscated Mark II armor.  Stark arrives in his new Mark VI armor intending to warn Rhodes, but it is then revealed that Vanko has complete control of both the drones and Rhodes new armor.  As Stark battles against these remote controlled enemies Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) race to Hammer’s Queens facility to stop Vanko.  They arrive too late Vanko has already left for the Expo in a new more powerful suit of armor, but Natalie is able to give Rhodes control of his armor again so that he and Stark can fight the drones and Vanko together.  After Rhodes and Stark have destroyed all the drones the two of them combine their powers and defeat Vanko.  Vankos armor and the drones are revealed to have been equipped with self destruct charges.  As they begin to go off, Stark races to save Pepper rescuing her at the last minute.  She quits her CEO position and she and Stark finally kiss, after which Rhodes departs with his new armor.
