Criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller (Matthew McConaughey) operates around Los Angeles County out of a Lincoln Town Car. Haller has spent most of his career defending criminals, including a member of a local biker gang until he lands the case of his career Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillipe) a Beverly Hills playboy and son of real estate mogul Mary Windsor (Frances Fisher) is accused of the brutal beating of a prostitute. Haller thinks Roulet is innocent, having simply been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Haller and his investigator Frank Levin (William H Macy) analyze the pictures and evidence, notably the injuries the victim sustained. It bears a similarity to a past case of Haller’s that landed a previous client, Jesus Martinez (Michael Peña) who is in prison for life for murdering a woman despite always proclaiming his innocence. Haller has a daughter with his ex-wife, prosecutor Maggie McPherson (Marisa Tomei) who has never appreciated Haller’s efforts on behalf of guilty clients. All his clients claim to be innocent, but Haller begins to wonder if he should have tried harder on behalf of Martinez instead of convincing him to plead guilty in exchange for avoiding the death penalty. Martinez becomes agitated when Haller visits him at San Quentin and shows him Roulet’s picture. Haller begins to suspect that Roulet could be the real killer in the Martinez case but bound by attorney client confidentiality rules, he cannot tell the police what he has learned. That night Roulet breaks into his house, nonchalantly admits to the murder that put Martinez in prison and makes veiled threats toward Haller’s family. Levin is mysteriously killed after leaving a voice mail message claiming that he has found Martinez’s ticket out of jail. more…

In the past the war between humans and vampires has devastated the world. The Church created an elite spiritual warrior organization “Priests”, who were capable of slaying vampires. The majority of the vampires were killed while the remainder were placed in reservations. The Church created isolated, heavily guarded cities. No longer needing the Priests services and fearing their own weapon the Church disbanded them. Outside the cities humans live free from the totalitarian control of the Church. One day a Priest (Paul Bettany) is approached by Hicks (Cam Gigandet) the sheriff of a nearby town. Hicks tells him that his brother Owen was mortally wounded and his sister in law and ex-girlfriend Shannon (Mädchen Amick) were killed by vampires and Priest’s niece Lucy was kidnapped. Hicks asks for Priest’s assistance in tracking down Lucy (Lily Collins). Priest goes against the wishes of Monsignor Orelas (Christopher Plummer ) the Church’s leader, to do so. Monsignor Orelas then sends a group of four Priests led by Priestess (Maggie Q) to capture him and bring him back, dead or alive. After saying goodbye to his dying brother, Priest and Hicks arrive at a human but vampire friendly reservation where they discover that the vampires have taken shelter in Sola Mira a vampire hive where Priest lost several of his comrade Priests in a botched mission. There they are joined by Priestess, who decides to help him because she is in love with him. The group discover that the vampires are using trains to travel, slowly amassing a new army and intending to attack the Priest’s city and destroying the Church. They also discover that the inhabitants of Sola Mira had tunneled to the city of Jericho, where the other three Priests had been dispatched by Priestess. Once in Jericho the other three Priests are soon confronted by Black Hat (Karl Urban) who was one of the Priests who was thought to have been killed in the botched mission at Sola Mira. Black Hat asks the three Priests to become one with the vampire family and kills them when they refuse, leaving their bodies to hang on crosses. Black Hat and his army of vampires then proceed to slaughter the entire town. After Priest, Priestess and Hicks find the corpses of the three Priests, they discover Black Hat’s trail and follow him eventually catching up to his train along with the other vampires. While Priestess plants a bomb on the railroad tracks in order to stop the train, Priest and Hicks board the train and confront Black Hat and the vampires and familiars. Black Hat overpowers both Priest and Hicks. Black Hat reveals that the vampire Queen gave him her blood, turning him into the first vampire-human hybrid. He asks Priest to join him. more…

A man (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up on a train sitting across from a woman named Christina Warren (Michelle Monaghan). The woman seems to know him by the name Sean Fentress, but he doesn’t seem to know her and appears uncertain of his own identity. After eight minutes a bomb goes off on the train and the man awakens to find himself strapped inside a small geodesic dome. There Air Force Capt Colleen Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) explains to him through a computer screen that he is actually Colter Stevens a decorated army helicopter pilot, now on a mission to locate the maker of a bomb which destroyed a train headed into Chicago. This is to be accomplished using the Source Code, a time loop program that allows him to take over someone’s body in a reenactment of their last eight minutes of life. Stevens has no memory of how he became involved in the Source Code project, his last memory is of flying in a recent mission in Afghanistan while taking on enemy gunfire. Stevens mission in the Source Code is to assume the identity of Fentress, one of the train’s passengers to locate the bomb and discover who detonated it and report back to Goodwin to prevent the bomber from detonating a larger dirty nuclear device in downtown Chicago, which could kill millions of people. Goodwin and the Source Code’s creator Dr Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright) tell him that the Source Code is not a simulation, but a visit into the past in the form of an alternate reality. He’s told that he cannot truly alter the past to save any of the passengers, but that he must gather intel that can be used to alter the future and prevent a future attack. Stevens is sent into the Source Code repeatedly and each time a series of events are repeated, with variations due to Stevens’ acts. Meanwhile, he goes on searching for the terrorist and getting to know Christina until the bomb that destroys the train goes off and Fentress dies. Sending Stevens back to the chamber, however every time Fentress dies Goodwin says to Stevens that “everything will be OK”. Even though Rutledge and Goodwin constantly direct him to focus on finding the bomber, each time around he learns more both about the terrorist attack and his real life personal situation. Stevens resolves to complete his mission, now with the added personal goal of saving Christina and the people on the train if at all possible. Using a cellphone while on the train Stevens eventually discovers that he supposedly died two months ago. He confronts Goodwin with this information and learns from Goodwin and Rutledge that he had been shot down and his mutilated body was appropriated by the Air Force and used by Rutledge to operate the Source Code. Stevens then asks Rutledge and Goodwin to let him die, which they promise they will do once the mission is finished. Eventually he discovers that the bomber is a disturbed young man named Derek Frost (Michael Arden),which allows authorities to apprehend Frost and save Chicago before the second bomb is detonated. more…
